Metamorphosis Monday- Study

For Metamorphosis Monday sponsored by Susan at BETWEEN NAPS ON THE PORCH . Make sure to visit her blog and see all the wonderful transformations!

This is the only before picture I could find of the study. The previous owner (heir to the family who built the house) had used this as a music room, but we thought with the built in book shelves that it would be a good study.

It looked a bit better after we moved our furniture and books in.

When we wallpapered the rest of the downstairs, we couldn't decide on what to do in this room. It is the smallest public room downstairs and the bookshelves take up most of the wall space, so it seemed a waste to use expensive wall paper only to cover them up with shelves. We finally decided to paint the walls a red, so what shows has a lot of impact. As you can see, this is my husband's room primarily. He was a history major in college, has developed a local battlefield and is a re-enactor. I made the uniform on the valet in the picture above. As you can see, these are pictures from Christmas. We decorate this room with a Nutcracker theme since the nutcrackers are soldiers.

Oh, wow, love the red, and the built-in bookshelves are fabulous. I'd love to have a room like this to call my library! :-)

I think one of my favorite things in that room is the ladder at your bookcases. And I love red.

I LOVE cozy red Studies or Dens...in fact, seeing one on an historic home tour one Christmas, is what convinced me to paint my dining room red. I would rather have done that to a study, but didn't have one to do it to...and I was determined to get a red room in my home, somewhere! (LOL) I love how this looks and am totally in awe that you made the uniform!!! Wow! I surely hope your gorgeous home is on tour in your town/city at Christmas...because it would be a delight for all who enter! Great Met Monday post! Susan

I love the red. You get so much impact with that color and it's a lovely backdrop for your nutcracker collection.

Red rooms are dynamic, and your study certainly is. That is such a lovely transformation. Linda

A great transformation. Red, to me, is a library. books look so great against red.

How neat that your DH developed a battlefield (assuming Civil War?) -- the only CW battlefield in Ks is 20 miles or so from my little town on the prairie.

Have I said more than once how much I love, love, love your home! I love what you did with the study too. Everything you have done is tasteful and very appropriate to the age of the home! I love the uniform you made for your husband too.

We love history at our house also. I guess that is why we were attracted to an older home. My daughter just finished her PhD in History so I guess we have passed our love of it on to another generation. Please come by. I posted some pics of my sunroom. It is definitely the most modern room in the house because we haven't wanted to put any money into it- since only family sees it---

Thanks you for the peek into your study. Your decoration is inspiring! Love, Paula

I so prefer your fireplace and shelves in the pale brown colour - so much better then the white, particularly with those great red walls!

The red is perfect for that room; you just want to choose a chair and a book, and stay. and stay. and stay.

Wonderful makeover, but then everything you are doing for this house is fantastic. Your labor of love is also a labor of good taste!

I love that you, too, had the purist-colonial phase. I think it was good training! Now we can go a little more over the top, but still remember what it feels like to be restrained. :-)

Love you house.. a LOT!
