Snowflake Fairy Cakes

For Foodie Friday, I am recycling an old post. Before spring completely is upon us, I wanted to share these snowflake fairy cakes again. Thanks Gollum for hostessing Foodie Friday!

For my Winter Wonderland themed garden club, I made Magical Christmas Fairy Cakes - Christmas Fairy Cupcakes. I got the recipe from a friend who lives in France on Recipezaar. Here is the link to the recipe

In her pictures, there was an exquisite snowflake she had cut out of fondant. I asked where she got the cutter and she said that they were from England and not available in the US. She is such a sweetheart that she sent me a set of three in differing sizes! In exchange I sent her a cookbook.

The cupcakes, or fairy cakes turned out beautifully and my first attempt at decorating with fondant was a snap!!!! The recipe calls for sprinkling the cupcakes with edible glitter which I found at Michael's.

Here are my pictures:

  1. Oh my goodness! Amazing! What a sweet friend you have, sending you those fondant cutters. That is a world into which I have never wandered because I was sure it would be too difficult. Maybe I'll get the nerve to try...Debbie

  3. I just love those snowflakes on the cupcakes. But, that tree will always be the best. You should never take it apart...it's so pretty. I could have bought some of those icicle (sp?) ornaments at Dillard's on clearance this year, and now I'm kicking myself. You can get on Carolina Mama's blogroll just by leaving her a comment.

  6. Just wanted to stop by and let you know I think I found the little snowflake cutter at this site:

As soon as I ordered them, it said out of stock, so I don't know if that means I got the last set if they are out of stock. It allowed me to pay for them, though, so I think I ordered them. I never made fondant...I don't even know what icing sugar is. :-) Guess I'll need to figure that out! :-) I just love your little cupcakes...thanks for sharing the recipe site. Susan

  7. Thanks for the info. about the fondant...and the icing sugar. I've made icing with confectioners sugar before so I should have guess that. :-) I have a Michaels about 2 miles from my house so I'll definitely look there. Thanks again...I'll let you know if I did get those cute snowflake cutters. Their site certainly let me pay for them via Paypal so I hope that means I got the last set. :-) Susan

  10. These are beautiful! The name is an apt one, fairy cakes. They look so airy and magical. I am so scared of fondant (and if you could have seen me icing cupcakes today--I'm a true glutton for punishment--you would say, Gollum, don't even think about fondant.
LOL Oh, but I have to try. This would be sublime any time of year.

Thank you so much for all your comments! I really do treasure them all. If I don't respond to all of them immediately, it is because I work full time and share a computer at home. Thanks again!!!
